Windows XP Pro Admin password

Hi,

So can anyone tell me how to reset the Admin password in XP Pro? I've basically tried all the hacking programs out there which pretty much are useless. I tried editing the REG by deleting SAM but I couldn't get access into SAM. And all the "official" password reset programs you have to install, which obviously as a limited user I cannot do.

Appreciate some help. Thanks.

Winternals makes an Admin Pak that has a Locksmith utility that is made for these types of scenario's. The software itself is on the spendy side but you can get a 14 day trial. You will need to register on their site to get the trial but it would probably help you solve this problem.

You would need to make an ERD Commander boot CD and boot your PC from that. Once that is booted up you should be clear to change the admin password.

Hope this helps!

Just delete the same from the dos prompt unless you're using NTFS, then it's ERD utility time. This one works pretty darn good for NT and Windows 2000. We haven't tested it on XP yet though as far as I know. Check it out:
BAM!

If you can get your hands on a copy of ERD Commander it works great on NT, 2000, and XP! I use it all the time for customers that forget their passwords!

Can you make a boot disk and get to the sam file in dos to delete it? Or is your file system NTFS? I could probably mail you a boot cd with the password utility thing on it if you're desperate. Nobody you know has a cd burner? No second computer in the house you can stick the burner in to burn a cd? Heck you might have already fixed this by now, lol. It's been a week!

Yeah, i've used this utility on at least a dozen machines now. It's great.
