Allright I see that you have to buy a peice of hardware. does that mean i can buy a junk 2$ comp part or somethin? oh and why is it such a low price? is it some kind of rip off? what so diffrent from the retail than the OEM thing?

I believe that the hardware must be "integral" to the operation of the computer. That would mean that a $2 cable would qualify.... (<-- take that with a grain of salt).

As far as why the OEM is cheaper, you're only legally entitled to run XP on the computer that uses the piece of hardware you originally puchased it with (that is, the liscence says you can't move the software to another computer later on, even if you remove it from the computer you initially installed it on.) Other than that, it's the same software.

One imagines that you could move your $2 cable to the new computer... (but again, that's a little bit beyond my experience).
