Windows XP post-installation disaster

During the installation of XP RC1 (upgrading from 98), "an error was encountered" wherein my old user profile (or 98's excuse for such a thing) was unable to transfer, and was therefore deleted. The rest of the installation went fine, but now that I'm up and running on XP, all the files I previously had stored in the My Documents folder are now gone.

Does anyone know where these files might be? I've done a search for some of the files, which has produced nothing... I rather doubt they've been deleted, as EVERY OTHER FILE on my system is still intact. Weird.

In win9x the My Doc folder is on C:, and yours is likely still there. In winnt it's in the user's folder in the Documents and Settings directory.
 
Ok, I swear I've checked everwhere for these files, to no avail. I had considered that they just might need to be re-linked to, but wouldn't a system-wide search at least turn up something?
