If you can log on to any account that has admin rights, yes.

If not, you're SOL.

i wish people would not give advice if they do not know the answer, especially if it means when they are wrong that there is a lot of needless work that was done by someone else. Having to reformat or reinstall when it's not required certainly applies here.

download this linux boot disk here then once you download the zip file, just unzip it and run the included executable file to create the actual floppy-based boot disk.

I wish some people wouldn't complain about people trying to help, even if they don't know the exact answer. How was he supposed to know that there was a better way if he hadn't come across it?

my point is that if you are not sure about the answer, don't tell someone they are SOL and leave it at that. Something to the effect of "I'm not 100% positive, but you might be SOL" would be a better choice of words. Certainly no one is expected to have all the answers all the time, but the way you present your answer is what is important.

Even easier, install your Harddrive on a second system ( as a slave). Boot up into the OS, navigate to the SAM file on your harddisk, and erase it.

Windows\system32\config\sam

When that's done, go ahead and plug your harddrive back into your system, boot it, and enjoy your blank password on the Administrator account.

Note that if you have any EFS encrytped files, this method will pooch your access to them (unless you backed up your key, which you should ALWAYS do)
