Windows XP networking issues...

Has anyone noticed that when you have two or more xp machines on a network it slows to a crawl? I have gone through every setting I could think of but ever since I changed two of my machines from win2k pro to xp pro my network speed has gone from 100mb switched to 6mb switched. That's for all the comp's on the network not just these two. Any suggestions or ideas? I think I'm just going to take everything back to win2k pro at this rate.

There was a known problem with beta XP and certain software versions of Cisco routers (or switches, don't remember) that would cause that problem. Upgrading to later Cisco software fixed it. I don't know if Microsoft fixed it or not along the way or just left it up to Cisco.

Might be something to look at if you use Cisco gear. I can't remember any more of the details.

Wish I was still using Cisco =) I have the little baby linksys switch right now. I just took both xp boxes off the network and now the network is back to full speed. If I put one machine on, doesn't matter which it works full speed. But once I put both of them on it slows to 5-6mb. I have tried changing some registry settings, I have reinstalled xp a couple of times, I've also tried different drivers for the nics and such. No big loss going back to win2k pro if that's the case. I just like to try to figure out the problems instead of running from them.

I am on a home netork DSL cisco 675 router SMD 5 port hub hooked to a couple of win2k boxes really into online multiplayer gaming, bandwidth is everything. I was thinking of going to XP pro this weekend on my box the other box will remain on win2k for now. I am now worried to do it, is this really a problem? what to do?😕
