Windows XP Networked Drives don't reconnect

Have several Windows XP systems on a workgroup who all map to server drives on a Windows NT server. Win98 systems have no problems reconnecting at logon. However, XP systems will load up and then not reconnect, and yes the reconnect at logon thing was checked. All you have to do to reconnect them is click on them in My Computer and they connect right up, they don't ask for a password or username they just connect. This would be fine but we forget to open them it is a real pain. I have read some things from Microshaft that this is an intended design (BS) that to speed up the load times they don't reconnect anything that requires certain resources or some BS like that. Any ideas. Thanks in advance.

When you map the Drives you have to not only check the "reconnect at logon" but also there is some hyperlinked text that says "connect using a different username" you have to click on that and input your logon credentials that are required by the server (not your local machine) to map the network drives. Those credentials will then be remembered and will re-map next time.
