Windows XP name lookups slow / failing

My home machine is XP Pro SP3. It appears that DNS lookups are a lot slower, and fail frequently. I'm guessing this is likely to be some bit of a virus or spyware or something. I've run AdAware and Spybot: Search & Destroy as well as Trend Micro's online scanner. I'm probably up for a reinstall anyway, but was wondering if anyone had any cute ideas about any ways to maybe fix my name resolution.

What would that gain me?

I very, very, very seriously doubt that my ISPs (Earthlink) DNS servers have been getting worse, progressively, for weeks now, aren't responding a significant percentage of the time, and nobody has complained so they'd fix it.

Occam's Razor tells me to blame my PC, not the network or their servers.

Very true. It was just a suggestion, hence the question mark.

I tried searching Earthlink's Support site for a list of current DNS servers, but that page (revised June 2008) is dead.

I've had Cox and Qwest change or shut down certain DNS servers without notifying me or my clients.

Just to be sure, call them up and ask them what DNS servers to use.
