Windows XP My Computer folder help!

Hey guys... I've been having some problems with my windows xp pro. When I restart, or cold boot my computer, and try to open my computer folder, i get this flash light icon that flashes back and fourth as if its searching for the drives for a long time before it actually detects them.

It usually takes over 5-10 mins for the folder to pop up properly. And when it does, it usually changes the settings on my computer folder so that the view is different. I have it set up so that its arranged in groups. But once after the 5-10 mins, my computer folder finally loads and its not organized at all!

But the weird thing is, i don't think my computer is having a hard time detecting my harddrives. Because during the wait, if i type "C:" or "F:" it goes to those harddrives and shows the right folders right away. It just takes a really long time to show my computer folder and the icons on that folder. Does anybody know what the problem is? or any way to go about fixing it? if you do, please tell me! thanks!
