hey,

I'm installing Windows XP Media Center edition on a HTPC, and mid-way through the install it asks me for the Windows XP SP2 CD. I downloaded the files and created the CD, but it still doesn't work, and its looking for IEXPLORE.EXE, which I can't find on the disc. Any help?

What exactly did you download? It's probably looking for a full XP setup CD with SP2 slipstreamed on.

It's looking for cd #2, it calls it XP SP2 CD but it's really the 2nd MCE cd. SP2 is already slipstreamed into that install.

was this from the action pack sub?

i ran into the same issue installing today....

if it is fromn the action pack,

when it asks for sp2, put in the gold xp sp2 cd you recieved in the same media center shipment.....

i had to swap discs 4 times to get the install finished....

didn't download anything. This was a machine handed to me when I arrived at work this morning for the first time in months with a request to format it.

It asked for the disc after installing from the second CD, so that's not it. (I did try for the hell of it though)

It isn't from an action pack subscription, if it is, then its not labeled the same as the action pack that we had over the summer. The two discs look like normal Windows CDs, not the action pack ones.

Any suggestions on where I can get this disc from?

just ordered a Microsoft XP SP2 CD shipped from their website for free, but if anyone has any other suggestions I'd appreciate it.

haha...my mistake. I was given a CD that had the SP2 files on it, but was not a Microsoft CD. Therefore I assumed that they had been downloaded. I frequent OT, and as such took your post to ask me if I was pirating the software...too used to trolls running rampant I guess.

The XP SP2 disc it is asking for is just the first disc that you started the install with. Installing MCE 2005 goes like this:
Boot off CD 1, start install.
Insert CD 2 when asked.
Remove CD 2, reinsert CD 1 when asked.

Ahh, disk 1 then, I installed it off the action pack disks too and I know I used one of the MCE disks to finish the install.

Yep, the first cd is just XP Pro with SP2 slipstreamed in (hence the installer asking for XP SP2 disc) and some commands in the installer to ask for the second CD when necessary and copy the MCE files to the correct locations. You can use the same media to just do a vanilla XP Pro install by plugging in an XP Pro key in the beginning of setup (won't ask for 2nd CD, I think). Ditto for XP Tablet Edition (will ask for 2nd CD, the Tablet cab is on there too).
