Internet Gateway, they keep coming up now, i don't remember it being part of the original Win XP.

what function does it serve and how do you get it to come up.

a client of mine has a PC with WinXP Pro installed, when started up in Safe Mode with Networking installed, it browses the Internet without issue, but when started up normally it can't find the internet unless i give it the DNS Server IP address manually (in the TCP/IP settings).

also, it doesn't have the Internet Gateway.

My suspicion is that the Router they are using is not UPnP and it isn't being recognized as a gateway.

any thoughts?

Your suspicion is most likely right. A UPnP router will show up as an Internet Gateway in Windows XP. Turn of UPnP on the router and you should be all set.

I would say that RPC takes that title. IIRC UPnP has only had one security flaw since it was introduced.

Good call. Forgot about that one.
