Windows XP Install Problem

Hi Folks,

I just setup a blank system for a buddy of mine, and I stuck the windows cd in the first time and there was no problems whatsoever. I then realized that I should probably partition the hard drive and quit the XP install.

Great, now when I turn it on it finishes the bios process.. and just sits there because theres nothing on the hard drive. I've cleared the CMOS and nothing happens, I've witched the cd roms master slave and all that.

How do I get this computer to boot off of this damn cd!

What type of hard drive is it. Maxtor and Western digital have a boot cd you can make and to setup everything. Boot to the CD and then partition and format then use your windows cd after that.

Can you go into the Bios and switch the boot order? Maybe boot from cd first. If that doesn't work, set it to boot from floppy first and boot from a win98 boot disk and delete all partition first. With WinXP CD, you can create partition and format before you install. You don't need to do all that before hand.

You have created a partial installation & need to start over in this sequence -

*NOTE - BIOS Boot Sequence when set to RUN NORMAL is:

1) Floppy
2) HDD0
3) CD-ROM
4) Other - Enabled
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Since you have a botched normal start change BIOS setting to this
you can replace everything, and partition and re-install the whole ball of wax:

1) CD-ROM
2) CD-ROM
3) CD-ROM
4) Other - DISABLE

Disconnect the 2nd CD-ROM Plaayer & make sure it is MASTER on the BLACK PLUG

Put the CD into the CD-ROM Player, make the BIOS changes as above,
SAVE, Restart & it should boot into the installation program.

After program installation is complete, change BIOS back to the RUN NORMAL sequence.

Have a nice day.
