I'm installing Windows XP SP1 corp edition on a computer. When it is installing i get through about 3/4 of the install and it stops at installing windows with 13 miniutes left. i keep getting this error.

Advanced Inf Installer
Inf Install failure. Reason: The parameter is incorrect

Ive replaced the hard drive thinking it was going bad( twice)
The mobo is an ABIT TH7II with Rambus Ram and im thinking the ram is the problem but i dont have any Rambus to switch out.

Any advice would be helpful

Whenever I had this happen the CD itself or if it's taking very long to boot up, it's your hard drive failing. Attempt to download the diagnostic .iso and burn it to a CD. Boot from the CD and test your hard drive. If that passes then it's more than likely either a bad cd-rom drive or a bad CD.

It ended up being 2 different problems

the Inf Install failure was the DVD drive, i was trying to load from a dvd that didn't work then i used a xp corp cd and it worked but took longer than normal

when it finally booted up i ran soft sandra and the proc was bench marking as a 450mz, had a 1.8a P4 laying around and throw that in there and running like a champ. when i removed the heatsink it was so packed with dust that air wasn't even getting to the proc, so that caused the burned chip

thanks for all the help
