Ok I just built a computer today for a friend.

Amd Athlon 64 3000+
Gigabyte GA-K8VT800
Samsung 120Gb SATA Drive

Alright, the motherboard only came with a cd containing the drivers no floppy disk.

The hard drive shows up in the via sata bios.

I hit F6 in windows setup to install drivers and my only option is from a floppy.

So I put what I think are the sata drivers on them, from the via 4in1's and there is an error, File \SATA\winxp\viasraid.sys caused an unexpected error (18) at line 2108 in d:\xpsp1\base\boot\setup\oemdisk.c.

Dunno what to do. The hard drive is brand new, never formatted or partitioned.

You probably have the wrong drivers on the floppy. Copy the SATA folder (or whatever the drivers on the CD are) onto a floppy and try those.

I looked on the cd, I see nothing about SATA. So I downloaded the via sata raid drivers for this chipset, put the sata folder on the floppy and I still get the same unexpected error.

Eh how stupid. It is so picky looking for the files. I got it to work the sata folder was inside another folder, so setup couldn't figure that out. Windows is installing now.
