I was having a lot of problems with programs crashing and windows xp just restarting out of nowhere, so i got everything wiped, reformated and windows reinstalled by a friend because he thought it was software related. I run quite of a few video editing tools but it seems to be the bittorrent client which causes a lot of crashes but this same client works fine on my cousin's computer running xp.

I am still having the same problems (with nowhere near the same amount of software installed)which to me indicates there is something wrong somewhere with the hardware side of things

is that right ?

what else could cause lots of program crashes ?

here is a list of the programs i have on my computer

Forte Agent newsreader
Nero Ultra 6
Kazaa lite K++
xvid codec
divx codec
bittorrent client

that's it!

i also just downloaded all the windows updates

someone suggested i could have RAM problems, either loose or bad memory, is this possible ?

cheers

Get yourself a copy of memtest86 (you can d/l a bootable CD .iso file) and test your RAM. That'd be my first check. Also, could you list your hardware? It is possible for it to be other hardware at fault. WinXP should be fine with those programs of yours.

Also since you said bittorent, it does the mutlicasting thing, so it could be something to do with the network drivers. Maybe get a different version of them and install them and see if that makes a difference.

Well, your motherboard is solid enough, I've never had an Intel manufactured board fail on me. The Celeron should never overheat as long as you have a moderate heatsink/fan on it. Those would have been my second and third check...
