Windows XP IE 7 printing problem

My mom has an old Dell with Windows XP home and IE 7 with automatic updates turned on. Whenever she prints in IE 7 the output is just HTML. The print preview function also shows HTML. She has an HP all-in-one inkjet printer (I think is the the PSC 1209). If she cuts and pastes the text to MS word it prints just fine. Does anyone have any ideas on this problem?
I have tried removing and downloading the newest driver from the HP site and rebooting but that has not helped.
Thanks!!!

Your statement is confusing. If it prints HTML, what's the problem? Or, are your trying to say it does NOT print in HTML, but instead, prints thew HTML code?

I am guessinbg the latter is the case. In that situation, your printer probably does not have the required fonts prescribed by the HTML code. The best solution is to save as TEXT, then place it in your word processor and format it it - or . . . get a newer printer and install the fonts needed to support it.

The printer prints the HTML code rather than what you see on the web page. The printer is only 2 years old and the problem started about 2 or 3 months ago.

IE7 HTML print problems... - bjdjn

I've seen this question asked several times but have never seen a conclusive
fix. Running IE7 (used to be an AOL user) and any time I try to print ANY
web page all I get is pages of HTML dump. Also does the same thing when
trying print emails via MSN... I've tried disabling Add-ons, etc. like many
have suggested, but still no luck. Help! Any other ideas to try?

Hi bjd,

Make sure that IE7 is your default browser. Start>Set Program Access and
Defaults.

Check the file type associations to print html documents. - Open Windows
Explorer, select the Tools>Folder Options menu, File types tab and scoll
down to select file types of type 'url'. Select the Advanced Button, choose
the Print command and click the Edit button. The command to print should be
something like

rundll32.exe C:\WINDOWS\system32\mshtml.dll,PrintHTML "%1"

(setting IE as your default browser should set this, but since you have
previously installed another browser, some file types may be missed)

I think you will find that the problem has been caused by the old AOL
browser. Did you uninstall it before installing IE7? You may find that you
have to first uninstall the AOL browser and then re-install IE7 to get a
clean IE7 install with no AOL browser left-overs. The Avant Browser also
leaves some settings unchanged when it is made the default browser.

Please post back your findings for the benefit of all.

Regards.

Rob,
Your suggestions worked like a charm!
The computer still thought AOL and its baggage was the default browser,
media player, etc. Once all those options were switched to IE7, etc. it
prints perfectly in emails and via web pages.

Thank you so much for your help!

Also make sure to check that the correct Language is set in the Browser
under View, Encoding .. Check Auto Select and also Unicode (UTF-8)
Also check the Font under Tools, Internet Options, Font

Thanks Bruceb. My mom did switch from AOL to comcast/free AOL. I wanted to remove the latest version of AOL but she was afraid of losing her address book and I don't use AOL so I didn't uninstall it. I will try this the next time I visit her.

This link has directions that will work to export your AOL Address Book
After you get them into a .csv file then you can Import them into any email
client. You should also get rid of that AOL Software in it's entirety .. Totally
not needed and it interfers with other programs functions.
