One of my machines seems to have a "bogus" copy of XP Pro on it. I've got the original OS disc, which is XP Home. Can I reinstall XP Home over XP Pro?

If you're looking to keep your settings, registry, and what not intact, you might try a repair install. I've only done it on across the same version of Windows, but it may work across different versions since it deletes all the OS files and reinstalls them.

That should work. I've tried something similar, but since I had fubar'd the registry before hand, it didn't go through.

Nah - XP Home cd's will not highlight XP Pro installations to do a repair install, and vice versa. I'd be curious to know if an XP Home upgrade copy would allow the change. An XP Pro upgrade copy likely would get the job done I'd think. But that's more money, obviously.
