Windows XP folder question

Is there a setting, program, reg hack, (rain dance?) to make windows remember the positions, sizes and viewing preferences of particular windows? Recently they have been constantly resting themselves and its driving me crazy.

As far as I know, there is, but I'm not sure what or where.

If I remember correctly, windows is supposed to remember the settings for something like 400 folders -- and then it forgets starting with the least recently tweaked setting. I think there's a reghack to change that number though.

There is a related setting in Windows explorer...

Windows Explorer > Tools > Options > View > Advanced Settings > Remember each folders view setting (sixth checkbox from the bottom)
