windows xp: "File search" hangs..

I was running file search on my windows xp in a 30GB HD. It seems like th process keeps on going, and going, while using the processes performance (up to 97%) for explorer. When I close the window, the explorer.exe process still runs high, and it makes everything slows down. How do I fix the problem?

Not sure if that's related to your search or not. Kinda sounds like a worm.

If it is related to your search do this:
Disable the indexing service,
Run a chkdsk c: /f /r & reboot

See if that helps.
