Windows XP File Encrypted

help, i managed to encrypt some files on my computer before i reinstalled the system. now i can't open them. it says under the "Advanced" when you right click and choose properties of a file: box is checked "encrypt content to secure data" -> "Details" has the my username, (username@my pc's name) and a certificate thumbprint. but i can't uncheck the encrypt box. it gives me an error every time. anyone can help unencrypt these files?

If you didn't backup your key from when you reinstalled then you are SOL. You have to backup the key you use to encrypt the files if you want to open them from another installation of Windows.

Which is why a copy of my EFS private key is on a floppy in my parent's safety deposit box!
i put mine on a cd. even floppys go bad.....
