Windows XP Fatal Error During Setup

I tried to reinstall WinXP Home and got this error:

Setup failed to remove the produt catalog DXBDA.CAT

Setup failed to remove the product catalog DXXP.CAT

The signature for Windows XP Home Edition Upgrade is invalid. THe error code is fffffc05

The system cannot find message text for message number 0xfffffc05 in the message file for syssetup.dll

How can I erase everything on this drive, and just install XP as if the drive were new?

Do you have system restore cds for the computer? If it is a HP, most likely there is a partition on the drive for running system recovery which honestly sucks. Did you see an option to format the drive when you installed windows?

If you want to format the drive, think about downloading a partition manager used for installing Linux which can format NTFS. This message is most likely from the files left on the drive you're trying to install on. I second amdskip on the sucks part.
