Of course windows xp fails to load with a blue screen and reboots before I can read anything. So I ran the winxp pro cd again and repaired.
In the process I get the error
Which I get rid of with these instructions:
So XP finishes repairing and on reboot I get this error message:
So I've already repaired it once more, on the 3rd time now... Is there any hope for me? I really don't want to format

RE: unregmp2.exe error during install/repair
I received a reponse from Microsoft that worked.
When the problem occurs, press Shift +F10 to bring up the
command prompt. Then type taskmgr.exe in the DOS window
and press Enter. The Task Manager should be started. If
not, try to press C+Shift+ESC. In the Task Manager
program, select the error messsage window in the
application list and click "End Task". In the process
list, terminate the unregmp2.exe program. Exit the DOS
prompt window and resume the installation process.
It worked like a champ first time!
So XP finishes repairing and on reboot I get this error message:
A problem has been detected and windows has been shut down to prevent damage to your computer.
If this is the first time you've seen this Stop error screen, restart your computer. If this screen appears again, follow these steps:
Check for viruses on your computer. Remove any newly installed hard drives or hard drive controllers. Check your hard drive to make sure it is properly configured and terminated. Run CHKDSK /F to check for hard drive corruption, and then restart your computer.
