Windows XP defrag not working....

When i try to analyze or defrag my pc it does nothing. It doesnt matter if i try it in safe mode or normally. Or if i try going thru the command promt or thru any other means. At the defragmenter screen it shows my hard drive and stuff but when i click on either button it does nothing.

Any suggestions on how to fix this or why it might be happening?

Get Executive Software Diskeeper 8.0 ...should be 9.0 now. The disk performance increase from using the built-in Windows defrag vs Diskeeper is like night and day. Executive Software made the "built-in" Windows version defrager for M$ anyway...it's just the crappy version of their Diskeeper 8.0/9.0 or like equivelant (sp?) to 1.0/2.0

They have a 30-day trial version then after that you have pay for it...but trust me...it's worth it.

The one time this happened to me it was on a laptop with an IBM travelstar hard drive and it was the hard drive going bad.
