Windows XP critical update failure

Has anybody experienced this problem?

After I download any critical updates from Windows Update webpage and during the install process, I keep getting an error message saying that the software has not been tested by Microsoft and will not install (it doesn't give me the option to continue the install). Now how can they not be test by Microsoft if they are critical security updates to WinXP and downloaded directly from Microsoft's Update webpage?

IMO, this is totally unexceptable! I'm tempted to just go back to Win98SE!

I've never had any problems downloading and installing updates from the Windows Update site for Windows XP/2000 or Win98. I have never received the error message you state.

Perhaps you have a problem with your XP install? Have you tried contacting MS?

I just tried installing one update at a time. I didn't get the error message, but after the install process Microsoft forwards me to a webpage that informs that the critical update failed to install and gave me a link to try again. I tried again, and again it fails to install. WTF!

Anybody else having this happen with WinXp Pro?

Yes Mitzi, I have contacted MS support. I'll give them time to reply.

BTW, I never had problems with any updates with Win98SE either. I never had any problems of any kind with Win98SE, and that's why I'm tempted to go back.

Never had that happen but had install fail for a driver update,I must of tried about 25 times anyway we know how bad Microsofts driver update is for XP. Microsoft also took the driver off their site so maybe it was a problem. As to your problem all I can suggest is you disable all anti-virus and firewall while downloading and see if that helps.
