Windows XP - Core Windows Installer Problem

Hello, ive had windows xp installed for about three months, really stable until last week, my windows installer seems to be corrupt it cant install or uninstall anything, here is the errors that it is giving me, one is when its run directly from setup and the other one is when i try to install via .msi file, is there anyway i can fix this without reinstalling? i am logged in as Administrator always, thank you very much.

hm, sounds like a reformat coming...

did u try system restore... restore to an older point byt pressing F8 during boot up
 
suggest you have sfc check the system files by running the command sfc /scannow from the Command prompt Window (Start > Run>cmd). you'll need your XP cd!
 
I am having the exact same error with Windows 2000.

Are you running Aol Instant Messanger? I have a hunch that the recent hole discovered in AIM may be a possible explanation for this...
