Why was the XP wallpaper infamous? People liked it.
I remember it not being well liked when XP was current. Infact I remember people bashing the entire XP look altogether back in the day. Nowadays people like it for the nostalgia.... myself included :)

Looks pretty cool!

The XP GUI was pretty terrible, first thing I did and still do on any XP install is set to Classic. Same with 7. Then they took that ability out in 8 and 10. One of the reasons I hate those so much is because of the GUI, and you can't even change it.

My only issue with the default XP wallpaper was that (AFAIK) it was 640x480. Considering that XP spanned an era that also included 1080p (and 640x480 was not even considered to be the minimum acceptable resolution), it's a bit surprising.

800x600 size at 72 dpi from what my image program gives me.

Oh, and 88keys, do the same to "Red moon desert.jpg" and "Stonehenge.jpg" should look interesting.

Looks like all of the standard wallpaper images were 800x600 for XP. Including the sample pictures.

I'm pretty sure all the wallpapers in XP were at least 800x600. You were not even allowed to set your desktop resolution to 640x480 in XP unless your computer couldnt support anything higher (old laptop or whatever).

That makes some improvements but as far as I know it does not change the actual GUI. You're still stuck with the blockyness and all the white.
Regular classic is ugly as hell, but I still like the rainy day classic theme. One of these days I'll copy it in gtk+.

I didn't change it to classic but I always IMMEDIATELY changed the color scheme from that hideous blue/green to silver. So much better.

I like the wallpaper though, nice job.

Meh, XP was just a dressed up windows 2000 with better USB support.

Win2k was my favourite OS, it was stable, clean looking, intuitive. It did what it was suppose to do. I actually held on to 2k for quite a while, I upgraded to XP once stuff like games would no longer work in win2k. By then XP was also more stable. XP at the start was actually quite a disaster itself. I think even Firefox at some point dropped support. So when stuff started to not run in it I had to upgrade.

Then there's windows ME, Vista and 8. We don't talk about those. :p

I was at a TechNet conference years ago and they reference Windows ME as Mistake Edition and openly apologized for it. Those others you mentioned had to be released in order for MS to stay marked as an OS company...
