Windows XP CD won't boot

I have changed the bios settings on my Epox 8rda+ to use CD-ROM as the initial boot drive. I run a DVD Burner and CD Burner as the master and slave. When I start the PC, the lights of both drives come on as if they are reading a CD (the XP CD is in the DVD drive), but it then goes into bootup from the hard drive. I also reset my CMOS but with no help. Not sure where to go from here.

I did try that, but it didn't work. Would I need to change the CD from slave to master for the CD to boot from the CD-ROM Drive?

 
I have the same board, but haven't had any troubles booting from CD. When you are booting up do you get message "Boot from CD:" followed by the "Press Any Key to boot from CD". If you don't get this message try putting the CD into your other drive.

I did notice that I couldn't use a wireless keyboard for this. I can get into the BIOS with my wireless keyboard, but at the "Press any Key" I needed to have a USB or PS/2 keyboard.

First of all, no one should be emailing you with solutions. It's a forum for people to see problems AND answers, so all responses should be here.

Secondly, is this a real Microsoft CD, or a burned CD? If it's just burned, it might not be bootable.

What's the difference between an answer and a solution again? 😕
 
So in the BIOS does it have two devices listed DVD and CD.. .or just one "cd" device? I haven't seen the BIOS on your board but logic would dictate that the master device on that chain would be the one to use. You can just take the slave device out of the chain... if that doesn't do it your CD may not be bootable, if that is the case then you can get an XP bootdisk image from MS and it makes 4 or so boot floppies that accomplish the same thing. Kind of like the old NT or early 2k days.
 
I haven't seen it mentioned yet, but is there a Boot Sequence/Order in your Bios? For instance, the Compaq computers we have at work are set to boot HD first, then floppy, then CD, then Network. However, if I wanted to boot with the floppy or CD, I'd need to change that order regardless of whether the floppy or CD are bootable. 😉
