Hi,

Accidentaly, I installed Boot Magic on a secondary hard-drive on my computer that is not present on the computer anymore, it seems like installing boot magic deleted the windows Boot Manager.

Well, I installed Partition Magic and was about to fix a secondary hard-drive (where Boot magic was installed) and set Partition magic to fix it at Windows XP boot time, when windows XP rebooted the partition magic came with extreme errors and could not continue making the computer to reboot itself.

After taking the secondary hard-drive off my computer, the PC only says: "DISK BOOT FAILURE, INSERT SYSTEM DISK AND PRESS ENTER"

I don't have a floppy drive on this computer (the motherboard misses 1 PIN of where the floppy is connected), I have tried Windows XP Recovery console "FIXMBR" and "BOOTCFG" but that didn't worked.

I have a friend's boot disk with Partition Magic and there it says my Partition is currently 'NTFS Inactive'

What could I do, what software can I use to fix this? My data is important to me. On the second screen of Windows Install THERE IS NO 'CLICK R TO RESTORE WINDOWS' option so I can't do that.

Thanks in advance.

You may find some help HERE
There is a lot of info regarding repairing a damaged dual boot, which is what you have.

I have used Partition magic to convert NTFS partition into Active and Un-hidden, I have tried 'fixmbr' again but no dice...

Recovery console detects my windows install thought.

bootcfg /list tells me:

[1] "MS Windows XP Pro"
OS Load Options: /noexecute=optin /fastdetect
OS Location: C:\Windows

Ideas?

Ok,

Seems like I found out a possible way, the problem is I don't know how to do it.

Supposedly the drive think it's * when it should be C:

Thanks for your help man, that didn't worked and I ended up doing a repair install (is installing right now) seems like when I activated and Un-hidded the partition that worked and Repair option made itself available.

Will this 'repair install' affect any of my windows settings? Outlook, etc?

Thanks

Probably not your settings (but remember this IS Windows) but in all likelihood you will have to re-do SP2 and subsquent updates unless you are using an XP SP2 disk.

Hi, Thanks for your reply.

My computer just has finished booting up after install and all my programs, emails in outlook and others are back :)

I'm so happy I didn't lost any data over this. And I'm thankful for the people that helped me.

I have to thank Bill Gates also for this feature made me keep over 4,000 emails in outlook I have for my job :)

Thanks again people keep the good work!
