Can someone please help me with this? Microsoft told me I have to pay $35 for their tech support because I own an OEM copy of XP Home. I find that so frustrating.

The blue screen appears almost immediately on startup just as the desktop appears. I have reinstalled the operating system a number of times. I ran memtest05 and my memory passed all tests. I have attempted to move the memory from slot to slot, out of dual channel mode, still get the screen. I tried only putting one stick in at a time and still got the blue screen with each stick. I attempted installing the operating system on 2 different IDE drives instead of my 74G Raptor...still got the error. I had the processor in another motherboard...ran fine. I think I'm down to the mbo, the videocard, and the soundcard as possible problems but I don't understand windows tech numbers. I don't have another video card to test unfortunately.

I am running an ASUS Deluxe Rev 2.0 with an Ath XP 3200+, ATI X800XL, Santa Cruz Soundcard, 74G Raptor (with operating system on it), 80G IDE for storage.
 
If you knew anything about the A7N8X Deluxe you wouldn't suggest that. Basically when you are running the SiI 3112 SATARaid (which you must to use a sata drive) the sound on this board cuts out. Big problem that Asus hasn't corrected.

Anyway...thanks but no thanks...I also tested the soundcard on another system after you suggested it. No problems. Next time you offer advice please make sure you "know" what you're talking about.
 
he does know what hes talking about, so please... the soundcard is in most likelyhood the reason for your blue screen, thats why he said t otake it out. you want it to keep blue screening dont listen. pay 35 for microsoft to tell you the same thing. you even mentioned it as a possiblility for the blue screen yourself. oh, and if you have it installed in the first pci slot after your video card, try switching it to the bottom slots cause the first one conflicts with the agp for resources. a different sound card will solve the problem if the card isnt in slot 1 and still blue screens.

do you get the blue screen right away after installing windows? if so, try installing without the sound card, and then put it back in and download the latest driver for it.
