Windows XP and Via 4-in-1

I've just setup WinXp and have a VIA KT133a MB. I tried to setup the 4-in-1s, but there was a problem with the IDE driver, and I'm wondering if any of the drivers installed. I didn't see the huge improvement in gaming performance that I did after installing the 4-in-1s in W2k.

Any help is appreciated.

XP does not need the 4-in-1s. I'd uninstall them if I were you.

The 4-in-1 are integrated in WinXP. I installed WinXP last week and as you can see in my rig, it's a VIA chipset, and I don't notice any performance loss without installing them.

YOU DO NOT NEED THE 4-in-1's in Windows XP. They are built in.

I concur, the 4 in 1 drivers are not required by Windows XP. As a beta tester of XP, I have not had to install a Via 4 in 1 pack in a LONG time and my chipset is always detected fine, my AGP is setup properly, and my UDMA drives are all operating at their peak.

Stay off the 4 in 1's MarriedMan. But you can install the latest Via inf file. I tried it and nothing bad happened. As a matter of fact, nothing at all happened.

Thks very much for your email. We share your concerns regarding the driver situation, and have been working very closely with Microsoft on this issue. Windows XP will have full built in support; so I hope this should start to break the cycle.

Being an extremely frequent buyer of computers (I upgrade my personal PC every 3-4 months) and a buyer of computer hardware for EDS when can I expect to see VIA motherboards that do not require all in one drivers? It makes it an extremely hard sell to me and my company to buy a board that requires patches before you can even begin operations. The long time arguement has been Intel's stability and without the need for an extra patch to get going. When will VIA break this cycle?

1 question, with my old (as of tomorrow) AMD 700 system, and K7M mobo....

Everytime I would install a program with WinXP, the progress bar of the inital install window, would lock upto
99% and hang for about 5-10 minutes!!

However, after installing the 4-in-1 drivers, this was fixed?

How come?

PRobably because that was one of the very first AMD VIA rigs on the market. My guess is that VIA like many other companies, assums most have upgraded since then.

In fact, that was my first AMD rig you have there Slot processor?

Ok, so now we are sure they are built in but does anyone know for certain if it is good/bad to install the latest 4-in-1 drivers? I am running XP and have been installing the 4-in-1 drivers as they are updated. I just installed version 4.34 Final.

Thanks for the help guys, but I have to ask the same question as above. Now that I've tried to install them, should I reformat and start fresh with XP? Are there any ill effects from installing them?
