Windows XP and User Accounts / Folders

I did a complete reinstallation of XP, and I had 2 accounts. I guess I entered in a different computer name (or was it workgroup) and now has created new desktops. It added 2 new folders in "Documents and Settings" (let's say my users were 1 & 2) so they're called 1.Home and 2.Home. '1' is my admin account.

So now I have the folders:
1
1.Home
2
2.Home

If I log in as 1 it uses the 1.Home folder, and 2 uses the 2.Home folder.

So, now, on both accounts the desktops are empty. This is not a problem really for 2 b/c I can copy over the desktop contents from 2 to 2.Home.
But I cannot access 1's folder. It says access denied, even though I'm logged in as 1 (Admin user).

I would actually like to somehow get my users/folders back to the way they were before, and get rid of the Home folders. And get access to the 1 folder.

I've tried changing the Computer name and Workgroup to what I think it was before, but it didn't help.

Anyone know how to fix this?
Thanks.

First do this:

move the folders in documents and settings into your root dir or something, as long as you get them out of that directory. Now make two new accounts (using the names you want) and then login to them. Their settings should be default since you are creating new users. After that, login as the administrator and copy the files from the two folders you moved and put them into the two user accounts that were just made by XP. See if this corrects your problem

Thanks, I think that'll work, but I still cannot get access to the '1' folder.

Right now, I have 1 as Admin, and 2 as Limited account. But even logging in as admin, I still do not have access to the '1' folder. I try to open it up, and it says Access Denied.

BTW, I am using NTFS if that helps.

This should really not be happening unless something is "wrong" with the folder. Right click it and go to properties to make sure everything looks okay in there, you might want to remove permissions then re-enable them to see if that clears the problem.

Seems to me the OS is thinking that original Admin folder belongs to another domain or admin and is not allowing the 'new' admin to access it. If you've changed the computer name like you said try and I have no idea if this will work but try logging in as the original admin
Login: <original comp name>/Administrator(or whatever the username was)
Pass: <the original admin pass from before the reload>
Honestly I've never tried that but it's how you log into other domains etc.. so you can try it.
