I don't think XP is able to be installed from a USB key. Vista/WHS/WS2008/W7 on the other hand can.

Hy, it actually can, i've seen tutorials to use a usb drive to install XP or linux, but the both together can't see nowhere.

I was thinking someone would knew the way to get both together.

I suppose it would defeat your idea with both on 1 flsh drive, but couldn't you just get another flash drive, just have xp on 1 and ubuntu on the other?

If it's possible to boot XP from a USB drive, then I would think you could install Ubuntu using wubi. This could potentially all be done on one partition even.

Well, i wanted to save money by not buying another pen (or an external usb dvd).

Gonna check wubi.

thank you.

Just to clarify, what you want to do is to use your pen drive as a boot disk right, so instead of using the xp cd to load windows on a system you would boot from pen drive, same with ubuntu....correct?
above post regarding wubi, he's under the impression that you want to install XP on your pen drive, or at least thats what i got from it.....maybe i'm wrong.

No, you understood right. I thought wubi was some application to make an usb install disk.

Well, i want to say i've sucessfully managed to get windows xp + ubuntu 8.10 usb pen disk install. :)

i've used this:

http://www.msfn.org/board/inde...&p=737643&#entry737643
and edited the menu.lst that is created, to add the ubuntu option (copied the ubuntu disc to the root of the pen).

Tested to see if it works, and yes. Haven't installed to the end, but i supose it's working.

So i won't be needing one usb dvd drive, and 2 usb pens! :)
