My machine at home is XP and from time to time I have to monitor the work servers etc. Now I have terminal server client installed on my work machine, but as yet the company hasn't given me my laptop. Therefore I am needing / wanting terminal services client connection on XP. Under Windows 2000 it is installed as part of the admin pack. Do I have to do the same for XP? If so where do I find the admin pack for XP or do I use the 2000 version?

Cheers

not to be rude, but this should really be posted in the OS forum, because the mods will most likely lock this thread.

Easy one this :)
Windows XP has a built in terminal services client called Remote Desktop Connection, in the start menu under programs -> accessories -> communication.

It's actually far superior to the Windows 2000 client in that it supports 32bit colour and sound redirection (as well as redirecting the start button and various key combinations.)

woodchuck.

rdc 5.0 is the latest reincarnation of terminal services client. there is one problem tho. if the server isn't logged onto and the web server isn't running the rdp that you refer to doesn't work. w/ the older terminal services the one that comes w/ win 2k server it doesn't need web server or the server to be logged onto, just turned on. it can be at the ctr alt del screen and it works fine. not so w/ the latest version of rdp. :(

I'm running Remote Desktop on an XP Pro box with and HTTP server. You only have to have HTTP-ala-IIS if you want to run the client from a web page. There is a stadalone RD client that you can install instead.

I don't have to remain logged in to the XP box at all times to get this to work either.

Ok, at least I don't have to install anything for it. Next question is what about the active directory users and computers management and the others dns, dhcp consoles etc.

Admin pack required?
