Windows XP activation

I have a new rig and I pulled off my EIDE connections to my DVDs to attach an old EIDE HD that had some documents on it that I wanted to copy to my existing SATA HD. That all worked ok but Windows is wanting to re-authorize because it got cheezed off when I changed my system for 30 minutes. What am I looking at now. My OS is totally legal but my original cd and key are across the country, or at least I hope so. I mean my OS was factory installed when I got it I just didn't bring all the disks/whatnot with me. Do I need that stuff for activation just for minor changes? I've got other things I want to add/change too. Is it gonna wig every time I do?

thanks,

CE

No, if the automated internet activation fails and you have to activate it by phone a set of numbers is generated for you that you read off to the computer or the activation representative.
