Not this crap again.

Win XP x64 has drivers for the majority of devices. If it was made in the last two years, chances are it has driver for xp x64. It is a statement people make from hearsay not even having installed the OS themselves. Driver installs work the same as in xp 32 bit, nothing hard or messy about it. Performance is as good or better.

There is a reason why CG studios use it , and they wouldn't if it has lots of issues.
For gaming it really isn't going to matter since most games are not 64 bit. It will allow you to run more applications concurrently though.

Doesn't mean Vista 64-bit isn't considerably better than it anyway. :p

Actually Vista isn't better . Switching to vista would give people running xp x64 for work very little if anything.

vista will not increase cpu power, will not make more memory available, hard drive access will not be faster, storage will not increase, screen updates will not be faster, it doesn't increase work flow.

Really no reason why a studio would pay to change to vista.

The drivers will be fine. Nvidia and ATI have done a decent job at putting up good Win Xp64 drivers. If it strictly for gaming you will be fine. I had tons off issues with XP64 regarding drivers... but for peripherals that were either too new or too old and missed the XP64 development. Its a good OS and games run fine. I wouldn't pay for it if you have vista since you won't see a whole lot of gaming improvement if any.
