I've just ordered these parts:

ASUS A8N-SLI Motherboard
AMD Athlon 64 3500 (90nm)
BFG Geforce 6800GT OC [PCI-E]

...and I'm wondering if I should stick to WinXP SP2 or if I should try the beta of Windows XP 64-bit (XP64 or whatever it is). I've done a search but it seems like most of the information is from a couple of months ago so I'm not sure what I should do...

The system will be used 98% for gaming in case that matters...

I was around the same question before i bought my hardware. I tried installing x64, but a lot of drivers, per example my wireless usb device, could not install on x64. That's why I will stick to XP and wait 'till the official x64 release and hope the producents will get some x64 drivers ready to that time.

Is there ANY advantage to using 64 right now? It seems great in the sense there are no disadvantages... but are there any advantages?

Not unless you have some custom apps that take advantage of the additional capabilities. Right now, it's pretty ahead of the curve for most users.

I would call the lack of driver support a disadvantage...

But yes like Bill said. If you have no 64bit apps than you cant do anything (new) with it. There arent many consumer level apps today that really stand to benefit from going 64bit.
