windows wont start

The screen saver froze (azureus hosing my cpu again), and after a few minutes of moving the mouse, typing keys, force quitting, etc., it was still frozen. i reset, and now im stuck in the windows (xp home) loading screen. the (blue three squares) bar moves across the little field, but it wont go to the login screen. when i reset and try in safe mode, i get the scrolling white boot text, but it stops halfway through, showing a full screen of the text, and wont continue.
help!

actually, i have a telepathic link directly to anandtech. all i have to do is think really, really hard, and it uploads a new post with my user name. YES im on another computer. youll excuse me if i roll my eyes in amazement.

seriously, i really need an answer here. anyone have an idea? would clearing my bios do anything? i wouldnt think so, since i think its a windows problem, but im not coming up with anything better. am i going to have to reinstall windows?

btw, im pretty sure you didnt order a 72 thousand rpm hard drive.

Ooo.. that was angsty, anyways clearing your bios would do something, in your mobo manual you should find instructions on clearing the Cmos/Bios, by changing a jumper, this will reset all defaults to factory specs, from their change the values to what you want keep in mind it changes the FSB speed multiplier temporairily, if it is at 166.. or 133 it usually goes down to 100, after the system starts up in that 'safe mode' return the jumper to the previous position and start up, keep in mind the multiplier rule though.
