Well, I was installing a new DVD drive yesterday and directly afterwards I installed the Nero 6 software that came with the Drive. Afterwards I discovered that Windows no longer received input from my keyboard. I went to the keyboard through the control panel and under the hardware tab it said that the device was plugged in but not working properly. It said there was a code 10 error. Well, I switched out keyboard only to discover that my keyboard worked fine on other Windows machines and that none of the other keyboard worked on mine. All keyboards were going through the PS2 port. Well, I rebooted again and discovered that the keyboard functioned fine in the BIOS and that it was only when Windows began to load that the keyboard stopped working. I have Windows XP x64 installed. I say the keyboard stopped working because the lights for the caps lock, num lock, and scroll lock keys turned on and off like usual up until Windows began to load, then all keys failed to respond. So I went through the steps of Windows troubleshooting and he only step I didn't complete was the re-installing drivers part. i am unsure as to what drivers I would need to reinstall. The keyboard is a standard Dell and has worked fine for months now. I built the computer about 9 months ago and this is first time I have had problems of this nature. I tried to repair Windows, but that didn't fix the problem. I reformatted and reinstalled Windows using the quick reformat, but that didnt work. This morning I tried reformatting again using the lenthier reformat, but still nothing. When i run Windows in Safe Mode, the keyboard works just fine. Today I borrowed a USB keyboard and that worked just fine as well. Does anyone out there have any ideas on what might be wrong? Do you have any ideas on what else I can do to fix the problem?
Oh, when I installed the new DVD drive I was careful to be grounded and to not touch the mobo or any other internal circuitry, so I dont think that the mobo got damaged. I might be possible that a connection came loose somewhere, but since the keyboard works fine in Safe Mode and in the BIOS setup, I don't think that's an issue.
Thanks all.
