I'm having problems getting Windows98Se to install on a computer that I'm building. I fdisked my hard drive, formatted it. I boot off the boot disk, a menu comes up, I choose "Install Windows 98 off CD", and then I get the message: "Can't find setup files?"
What the heck???? I have a Kenwood 72X True-X CDROM drive. The BIOS detects it and everything. When I try to install it manually by typing "e:\setup" an error comes up and it says "abort, retry, fail". What can I do?

Wrong drive? If you have two hard drives, they would be C,D and then there is a ramdrive, which is E that is created when you boot from floppy, so your cdrom would be F. So go to f:\
Then type setup. That should work, if your drive is fdisked, active as primary dos partition and formatted.

Definately check the drive problem to see if it has moved the CD ROM drive down.

If you have a boot diskette, use that and select Start Computer with CD ROM Support, that normally get things going.

Also, you have installed the drivers for the CD ROM and used MS-CDEX to set it up yes?

I've tried to install the DOS drivers from KenwoodTech's website, but the instructions are cryptic and I don't know if I did it right. Can anyone here help me?

Is that an original Win CD, of is it a backup copy ? If it's a copy, it might simply be that your CDROM can't read the CD.
If not, try fiding the specifc drivers for the CDROM drive and put those on your boot disk.
