Windows won't go beyond starting logo then reboots

My machine will infinitely loop, without booting into windows. It goes through the POST then it goes into selecting windows mode (SAFE, Normal, Last known... etc etc). But it doesn't matter what I try, if I select "normal" then the windows logo will appear, then my machine will reboot.

If I select safe, a bunch of text shows up (as if starting -drivers loading phase?) and eventually it asks me if I want to start up a driver called d347bus.sys. I got a feeling this is Daemon Tools, and may be the culprit. I think at once upon a time the trick to get around such issue was to hit escape and then go into safe mode and disable daemon tools, or Nero Burning rom. I forget what the beef is/was between these two.

Never the less, whether I hit ESC or not, I'm not booting, in SAFE mode or any other kind of mode. And I'm exhausted from googling...

Despeair has hit, and I've come here looking for help.

So... Help?

Try going into SAFE mode with selective startup.
type 'N' to almost everything that doesnt look important
You may have to try this several times and there are lots of Y or N presses.

That happened to me once. It would go to the windows logo and stay there for a couple of minuets then it would reboot.

It turned out my IDE cable was loose. Mabey you should check if anythin is loose...

How do I go into SAFE mode with selective startup? The only options I see (after pressing F8 during startup) are:
Safe Mode
Safe Mode with Netwnetworking
Safe Mode with Command Prompt

Enale Boot Logging
Enable VGA Mode
Last Known Good Configuration
Directory Service Restore Mode
Debugging Mode
Disable automatic restart on system failure

Start Windows Normally
Reboot
Return to OS Choices Menu

The closest thing to any action I see is debugging mode where it tells me that windows is starting in debugging mode, then it fakes me into thinking it's going to start but instead it reboots.

enable boot logging might show you how far it gets before it decides to pack up.
Then you could go into recovery console and stop that driver/service from loading up.

Just repaired a customer system doing the same thing, turned out the hard drive was on it's way out.

Easy test, start the XP setup by booting from the XP disk. Let it get to the point where it will run a CHKDSK, hopefully, CHKDSK will find and repair the error.....or it will tell you the disk is so bad that XP cannot install to the drive.

So I had abandoned the machine for a while, because I was busy w/school. I took the monitor and plugged into the laptop I'm now using.

Yesterday I decided to try inserting the Windows XP CD-Rom into the drive, and boot (after having switched the monitor back to the Desktop's VidCard). When I went to boot up, nothing was showing up on my monitor -the monitor was receiving some signal, because the disconnected icon wasn't dancing on screen.

I figured the whole situation is getting out of hand, so I shut down and remove the Hard Drive and inserted into an external USB enclosure; I want to salvage some files. When I turn on my enclosure the drive shows up. But when I click on it in windows explorer I get a message that tells me:

The disk drive D: is not formatted.

Do you want to format it now?
Yes no

Of course I don't want to format it! Can someone tell me what I can possibly do to access this drive and all my data in it? Or why can't my laptop read that drive? I REALLY REALLY don't want to lose my data. I right clicked on it and selected properties to see what the deal is and it says that the file system is RAW (0bytes capacity).

HELP!!!!!

Okay. I removed the HDD out of the enclosure and stuck it back into the machine... And I dumped the CMOS.

Now I'm back to square one, whence I can't really boot all the way, even in safe mode. -But atleast I'm seeing stuff on screen.

However, I tried booting of the CD-Rom. There is a repair option, if you hit R -instead of installing. But this R option leaves me in a black screen that calls itself the recovery console. I'm staring at a c:\> prompt. What am I supposed to do with this?!?!?

Ideally, I'd like to be able to start up my system once again, without any kind of re/install.

If that's not possible, then is there anyway where I could install, but without losing the files I already have on the drive?

I'm sure someone out there knows how to get this system back up and running w/o how to format or do any kind of reinstall...

once in recovery console, try
fixmbr

That might fix it or break it properly......
If you have data you want to keep, I would try a nice easy one - getdatabackNTFS or SPINRITE6

Thanks for that tip, but I didn't want to do anything that "might break it properly".

So I went with chkdsk, it said the volume is in good condition and was not checked. Use /p if you want to check volume anyway
I did. Then chkdsk said it found one or more errors, then I rebooted... It took me into selecting stage.

I went with safe mode, and got in. But I didn't know what to do there so I rebooted into normal windows mode... And I'm back in business...
