I just pulled out a nvidia 560ti, unistalled the nvidia drives, turned computer off, plugged in new hd6970, downloaded newest Cat drivers, and nothing. The computer doesnt even see that I have a vid card plugged in, and everytime I try to install the Cat suite, or even the driver itself, it fails. Help?

Try driver sweeper http://phyxion.net/item/driver-sweeper.html

Uninstall any AMD drivers you have installed. Then do the following.

Install driver sweaper, boot into safe mode, run it and click Nvidia Display drivers and have it analyze. Then clean out remnants of old Nvidia drivers. Then have it do the same for AMD/ATI display drivers. Then restart and try to install the latest drivers.

thanks for the suggestion. Somehow my driver for my display adapter in device manager was missing completely. Reinsalled it, restarted, and it detected the card. Seems like my gigbayte motherboard is dying again, 2nd time. POS

Eww...motherboard woes are the worst IMO because it's not like you just pop it out and pop in a new one 30seconds later. It requires a full disassemble to get apart.

At least you know what it was. I always use driver sweeper when installing a new card as a rule of thumb. Probably don't have to, but I take the extra couple minutes to clean out everything left over and start fresh. Even if I'm using the same brand (i.e. EVGA GTX 280 - GTX 570 I'd go ahead and run the sweeper).
