I have a very basic 3com internal 56K Fax modem. It has been installed and working fine (through my 3com home network card) for over a year. I have reinstalled windows 98SE twice in the last three days (to correct other problems) and am finding it very difficult to install the modem. It does not auto detect it when installing the OS and it can?t find it when I try to install it using the control panel modem wizard.
Yesterday, I finally got it to detect it after moving the modem to an empty PCI slot (removed and reinserted to the same slot 2 or 3 times).
Any thoughts on why this is being such a pain ? all my other hardware is installing with basically no problems.
