it seems that anything that requires active x just does not work. i clicked start, then windows updates and this is the error i get after i let it try for a long time. nothing under the error code worked, i tried everything. any ideas?

edit*any active x test i ran passes and you can install active x. but i tried to run panda active scan and it installs the scanner but gets no further just like windows update installs and then freezes

yea i dont like that utility because it says ill have to reinstall all the applications that i remove using the utility. i had a problem sort of like this before where windows installer was corrupted because cabinet.dll file was in the wrong folder but this one seems to be ok.

That code usually indicates that you are being blocked by a firewall or security software. Reboot to safe mode w/ networking and see if Windows Update & Panda Activescan work properly.

Windows update does not work in safe mode with networking.

When was the last time windows update worked? Did you update to IE7? If this is really recent a system restore might fix it.

Also you could try making a restore point and then uninstalling IE7 and if it doesn't work and you still want IE 7 revert back to that restore point, or download the stand alone installer.
