With taxes, (14%) grand total is $178.98

Anybody else is getting Vista tomorow?

If so what version are you getting and at what price?

I hope this is not a repost.

Hell No!

No as I have no need for it. After they work the kinks associated with a newly released OS out (till SP1), ill give it a go.

it should be at midnight tonight, i would imagine...

That would be sweet if possible. My uncle said he has no idea and it could be as long as two weeks before he is able to get it. Does anyone have any hard evidence to suggest that it would be available on launch day?

How do you get it for $15? I am a student and they are charging $85 for the Home Premium upgrade, which is still a good deal, but not near as good as $15.

I'm pretty sure I'll be picking it up tomorrow, but not 100% on what I'm going to do yet.

My two options are as follows:

1.) Buy the Ultimate Upgrade, and take advantage of the 2 copies of Home Premium at $50 apiece from Microsoft's new family plan.
2.) Buy Home Premium Upgrade and be done with it.

I'm leaning towards option 1, as I have another computer in the house, which doesn't necessarily need to be upgraded, but Vista will be around for quite some time, so might as well get it cheap while I can. The extra copy of Home Premium will either be sold or used later down the road for an HTPC and the new media center, maybe around the end of this year when SP1 releases and the final updates to media center are released.

do you know if the $50 Home Premium versions are Full or Upgrade? I've been unable to find that out

just depends on the school. I got Enterprise version for free as a student. Also got Office 2007 for free among many other software items if I wanted them.

What school do you go to? I go to the University of North Texas, and I don't get any free software at all, at least not that I know of. Anyone else here go to UNT and know a way to get ultra-affordable software?

A good question, and one that I actually tried to find out after I posted that. From what little I've read so far, wording seems to point to full versions, but common sense denies that notion. Nothing has said verbatim that it's either upgrade or full, I'm just judging by the wording and direction.

I'm just putting my guess on the upgrade. Maybe it hinges on whether or not the Ultimate that you buy is the upgrade or full version, which both are eligible for the family pricing.

If i have to pay full price for vista then no. Currently i have a centrino lappy 1.6 with 512 megs of ram and it does fine. All i do is internet, office appz, torrents, and the occasional photoshop.

but i tell you what i will be using vista when i buy my next computer (like i have a choice).

anyway i hope linux keeps improving

That is your problem right there!

I got my copy of Vista Ultimate installed this evening. So far I am loving it, not one issue at all (not that I had any issues with XP though).

No. Not at launch.

Retail version pricing in the UK is a complete rip-off tbh.

Much better things to spend that amount of money on atm.

Got a couple copies of Ultimate (retail) on order, could be here by Thursday. I hope it likes 15k SCSI drives 🙂

I got my copy installed last night. I didn't get a chance to do much testing yet. Because I was curious about the process I did an in-place install. It didn't really know what to do with my 8800GTX or my SB X-FI but I just downloaded the lastest drivers and they work fine. I had to re-install Avast, no big deal. I tested Company of Heroes, it's working fine. I lost, maybe 3FPS over XP. Minumum rate is still over 30 and max still over 150. (1900x1200 everything maxed)

The only "problem" I see so far is a UAC prompt at startup for Logitech's Update program. It could be the new firewall or it could just be that Logitech's software isn't quite Vista ready yet. Their support forums mention their Vista software will be out soon in Early Feb. Worse case I turn off UAC until then. My G5 and G15 are working great, however.

Tonight the real testing and tweaking begins. I need to Test My MMO's (EQ and EQ2), The Battlefield games, and my Photo Editing and Nikon software. Other than the Logitech thing, things are looking promising.
