Windows Vista Theme

Do you use the default Windows Vista theme, customize your own to your liking, or use the classic windows 2000 basic look ? I know many people seem to have 2 GB of ram now so I am sure it really doesn't make a huge deal if you use a very ram hogging theme sense 2 GB of ram at least should be able to handle it with everything else that needs a lot of ram like games.

I created my own Vista Desktop modifying a theme.

It works for me. I pay no attention to the RAM it might use as long as everything works quickly and gives me no backtalk. I have 2 GB installed. 🙂

Here's mine It's just a variation on default. I'm using the application launcher for the sidebar to group similar tasks together on the desktop.

How did you get rid of the shortcut arrows corkyg? I did it in XP using TweakUI, but I don't know how to do that in Vista.

I did that with a registry tweak (RegEdit) that I picked up on this forum last month. This was it:

1. Open Regedit (Start -> Run -> type "Regedit") (withoutquotes)
2. Navigate to:

HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT -> lnkfile (LNKFILE)

3. Delete the following key "IsShorcut"
4. Close REGEDIT and Restart your computer.

After applying this tweak it is necessary for you to RESTART your machine so the new settings take effect.

I just changed my wallpaper to a photo I took this winter:

Desktop

It is so easy to do in Vista.

Thanks corky  with my current setup I don't exactly have desktop icons, but it'll be nice to know for the future. Sweet desktop. It is very easy to change. I like the way it changes immediately, so you don't have to apply settings, then decide if you like it.

I like your background also n7. I tend to like darker color schemes, so stormy skies, and dusk in isolated watery ares is generally what I'll use. I end up switching backgrounds once a week or so. Widescreen(1920*1200) images aren't the easiest to find though 🙁

Whoa lxskllr, what/where are those gadgets for Unreal?
And do those work for UT2k4?

How do you do that?

Also, for nice high resolution images, i'd suggest interfacelift.com & deviantart, on the wild chance you don't already know of them.

Excellent choice.

Interfacelift fantastic.

This is the application launcher. I keep my most used ones in the sidebar, and the others I have grouped by function on the desktop.

This one is the gameserver monitor. It supports UT2k4 as well as many other games. I just keep our clan server in view, that's just about the only one I play on.

And lastly there's the Logo Clock That's just a standard clock that you can put any logo on. I used a UT2k4 logo that I found on Deviantart. Some work better than others for visibility. I had to try a few before I found one I was happy with.

I was already familiar with Deviantart, but I'll have to check out interfacelift.com Thanks 🙂

Edit: just checked out interfacelift.com very sweet site. I'm only 8 pages in and I've already got a bunch of cool wallpapers

Awesome, thanx for the links.

This thread has been great info, as i love pimping out the sidebar 😛

I remember how horrible it was back in the Longhorn days...man things sure improved 🙂

I've only had Vista since beta1. The sidebar was always cool, there just wasn't much available for it. I bet there'll be a ton of good stuff released over the coming year as more people migrate to Vista. I'm actually pretty excited about the prospects 🙂
