In getting ready for my new system build where the parts should be arriving this Wednesday I want to have everything up to date before I hook the system up to the internet. Yes I realize that as long as I engage the firewall and have it behind a hardware firewall (router) and don't go to any websites I'll be pretty safe. However the main reason I want to do this is to avoid downloading & rebooting multiple times to get the updates done. My plan of action is to build the system, test it, then load up Windows Vista SP1. Once I have it loaded I'll then load the updated drivers for the video card and motherboard that I'll be putting on a USB key. The drivers are easy, simple to go to the appropriate website and get those. Haven't found a security update roll up though in my searching through the Microsoft website that I can download, just the individual updates. Is there such a beast? I've seen them in the past for XP just haven't seen them for Vista unless I'm missing something obvious.

I am a little confused on what your needing to update XP or Vista. Title says XP but you talk about Vista as well. Anyways there might be Windows update that has all the updates via torrents or newsgroups but not all version may be available so the XP/Vista version would need to be known.

Heh sorry I fuxored up the title. Its for Vista Home Premium SP1. I would prefer to avoid the torrents/newsgroups as its all too easy to get something unwanted in those. I suppose it doesn't have to be from Microsoft just from somebody that's legitimate, has done this kind of thing before & haven't had issues with putting malware in there.

Well I am pretty sure there not much out that not do to MS legality issues with Custom CD/DVDs unless you wanted to try your own custom install using Vlite. This website has a lot of good forums for rolling your own OS install. I use it mostly for nlite installs.....
