Windows Vista May Have a Show Stopper Bug

Okay , I find out the RC2 was taken out from Microsoft Website and this usually means they found something really horrible with RC2 🙁

Microsoft still had 1500 mini bug last time i check but i didn't notice any showstopper bug , do anyone know if Microsoft will delay the RTM with 500bug less :?

Unlikely that it does have a showstopper. RC2 was not originally suppose to be a public release, maybe they've reverted their stance.

I cannot provide you with the reason why it may not be on the website but I assure you it is still rolling forward as planned. From the list of "fix before rtm" bugs I've seen there is nothing horrible that would cause us to remove it from the website.

🙂

Remember, studies have shown that tinfoil hats actually amplify the signals you think they are blocking. "They" want you to wear the tinfoil hats so they invented the conspiracy theory surrounding it!

It's MS, not M$. Be a grown up so that you get taken seriously.

If you can find the person at MS who knows why he's having download trouble I'm quite certain they will tell you. I can tell you for certain what the problem is *not*: some showstopping bug.

There will not be an RC3.

When released, Vista will be the most thoroughly tested new-release OS the world has ever seen. But, unless you want to go back to an OS as simplistic as CPM there will never be an OS released without bugs.

Besides... you're still running Windows 98 *snicker* , what do you care?

Oh now he just did not use the phrase "most thoroughly tested " while refering to a Microsoft product?

we DO know for sure "it will be the most thoroughly tested new-release OS the world has ever seen" - AFTER it is released. 😛
:Q

IF M$' "history" is an indication of the 'future'

😀

The only major bug I have run into on RC2 is office patches never getting installed even if the OS initiates the install procedure.

Otherwise the thing is stable and fast.

You spell MS with an $. You should just go ahead and write "zealot" on your forehead. You won't even catch legitimate *nix admins on these forums doing this: n0cmonkey, drag, nothinman etc. The $ is the mark of an idiot. Wear it proudly then..

Oh I'm sorry... you're running a six year old OS instead of an eight year old OS? You must update your signature about as often as your OS then "smarty". Where do you think I got the info from?

I don't think it qualifies as advertising for MS by rolling my eyes at such a stupid tinfoil hat conspiracy theory statement like, "M$ will never tell us 'why' . . . "

I came into this thread and provided as much honest and factual information as I could to help answer the OPs post. I don't really need some ration of ****** from you or anyone else wearing some MS-proof tinfoil hat.

And yes. Vista will be more thoroughly tested before release than any MS or non-MS desktop OS ever known. If you can prove otherwise, do it. This entire thread was spawned from someone running a beta of Vista. How many OSX beta users do you think there were? How much did Apple or Redhat budget for testing their latest OSs? If you want to get into the same league you're going to have to turn to IBM and OS/400 (which isn't even a desktop OS).

Nothing on any site I've seen about "showstopper bugs," so MS apparently just decided to close the window.

This is where an MSDN membership comes in handy, you can still download it there 🙂

equating M$ with a "zealot' is in your mind only. it may be the 'mark of an idiot' to you . . . but it takes a real idiot to focus in on that instead of substance in a post.

you post useless info about Vista and it just shows you are neither factual nor honest and i certainly have nothing to prove to an idiot or a ridiculer

anyway . .. i DID d/l Vista RC2 after the supposed "stopper" . . . 😛

I believe if you scroll back up you will see I commented point by point on every drop of substance in your post. I'm not sure how you can really call those three lines of drivel "substance" but it wasn't difficult to focus on. Your childish little $ was just an exclamation point on the sum of your anti-MS rant.

You spewed some anti-ms zealot crap, included your super-l337 h4x0r "m$" tag and I lit you up about it. You now have your butt in one hand while you high-five ArchAngel with the other.

ROFL - oh man that's good. And what are your "honest facts"? That there is a Vista RC3?? (wrong). That there are going to be bugs when the OS is released? (duh).

Since I'm neither factual nor honest how did you download RC2 after I factually and honestly said there were no show stoppers? I guess you really don't have anything to prove to me...you're just here to prove things *for* me.

I made what positive contribution I could to this thread back in my first post. I don't think there is anything left for me to do here but keep effortlessly smacking you around until the mods pull me off of you so if there is nothing else (hint/warning/suggested exit strategy) I'll be on my way.

RampantAndroid: Although I have access to the bug lists and release milestone info I don't really have info on what files are placed on what website. If you are in the beta program and still having trouble downloading in the morning just PM me and I'll ping my team's beta engineer and see if he knows anything.

look M$ beta boy . . . no one else cares that i used a dollar symbol for an 's'.. . . or made a sarcastic comment about their release numbering.

i didn't say there were show stoppers - or not. ... your company hasn't said anything ... to anyone about it . . . so that leaves room for speculation ... and comment.

you are just being an ass about it

you also posted this crap in your first post as "factual" and a "positive contribution"

Smilin is in a better position than anyone else in this thread to confirm or deny a "show stopper" bug in Vista RC2. The original post is pure, unconfirmed speculation and frankly isn't worth any attention at all.

Moreover, Vista has been thoroughly tested (witness the MULTIPLE public beta releases). Does that mean it will be bug-free? Of course not, and I don't think Smilin ever claimed that.

What useful information have you posted in this thread, apoppin?

Dude. Just say MS. "M$" makes you look like a 10 year old who likes to "pwn noobs" and that's right about when I don't bother to read the post.

<== software engineer

Linux being open source is probably better tested since true geeks can do code inspections. It's also a long lasting OS ... so instead of doing an OS from scratch every few years, Linux just continually improves itself.

But what's the point. This is an argument that nobody can win.

Oh, being a software geek ... a common punchline is this:
Q: Why doesn't Microsoft just patch an OS or product till it's nearly perfect?
A: Can't make money by doing that now can we.

edit: more tinfoil questions . . . theinq

the op did nothing 'wrong' to pose a question . . . 'why' . . . to which the correct answer is "no one" knows since there is not 'official' reason.

everything else is speculation
