windows vista - how can I use the keyboard to wake up from sleep?

I just installed Vista on a new build and noticed something odd - the only way I can wake up from sleep mode is to click a mouse button. Pressing a key on the keyboard does nothing, and moving the mouse (without clicking it) also does nothing.

In windows XP, moving the mouse, clicking a mouse button, and/or pushing a key on the keyboard would all bring the computer out of sleep mode. How can I make that the default behavior in windows Vista?

The keyboard is a PS/2 keyboard, and the mouse is a USB mouse, if it matters. Also I have the sleep mode set to S1 in the BIOS, if that matters.

Go to control panel - device manager.
Find your mouse or keyboard in the list and double click on it.
Go to the "power management" tab and select "allow this device to wake the computer"

If this doesn't work, it's probably a bios issue.

I'm not seeing a "power management" tab on either the mouse or the keyboard entries in device manager. 😕

I would use S3 instead of S1. S1 is next to useless in terms of power saving, if that is what you're after.

There is a setting in the BIOS to enable this.
It has to be set in the BIOS so the OS can poll the keyboard (looking for a keypress) during sleep mode.

I found a setting under Power Management Setup called "USB KB Wake-Up From S3", but it's greyed out because I'm using a PS/2 keyboard. Is that what you mean?

What about being able to move the mouse to wake the computer?
