Windows Vista Ghost Image ?

I just got my Windows Vista Ultimate kit yesterday. Gonna install it this weekend, but I need a way to make a restore image disc. Does Norton Ghost 2003 or Arconis True Image 9.0 Home work to make an image of a Vista Install ? Any other disk imaging software that "officially" supports Vista ?

I use Acronis True Image (with low compression) and an external hdd to create Full Image Backups but make sure you create a Bootable Recue Media Builder, its very handy when something gets screwed up.
 
Is this for duplicating a box or backing up?

If duplicating cool. If backing up I would really suggest the new backup utility.

The incremental/data backups go to zip format but the supercool is the system backup which creates a .VHD image.

I don't know about the in-Windows client, but imaging from the bootable CD (through Acronis or Ghost) will work for any OS, even ones that have not been created yet, as long as the imaging program can read/write the drives involved.

About the only thing that could screw it up would be a new partition format that the old programs don't understand (or a new RAID controller it doesn't know how to talk to, etc.) Otherwise, all an imaging program does is copy your partitions block-for-block; it doesn't know or care whether it contains data or an OS.

Yep, you are right. But if you are going to execute backup process from the operating system or perform schedule backup creating incremental or differential backup every week or so, you do need a backup utility that supports the OS. As I know, TI 10 was released with the specific aim of supporting Vista.

If you are going to execute a backup process for a Vista workstation, use the Vista backup utility.

If you intend to clone then imaging software is great...but again you don't really need a Vista-ready one to accomplish this.

People dont' seem to be mentioning that Vista ultimate includes a image backup utility, it's restore component is right here on the Vista boot disk. Main limitation, locally attached backup devices (cd/dvdr/usb/second internal drive etc, no network support). If you have a backup usb drive around, you've got everything you need to run an image after install.
