Yeah the 32Bit version has tons of torrents. But the x64 is very rare right now.

Also, its not against the rules to post any of those links AFAIK. They have most likely been stopped by Microsoft to not be linked directly.

Don't use the ISO links. Some do say they work for them though. The x64 ISO Link only showed 12MB or something. It should be 3-4GB downloads.

The torrent download has picked up alittle to 40KB-50KB/s.

The ISO links don't work in IE, I use FireFox. I don't know why IE can't download them properly. It only dowloads a small corrupt file. Firefox works well though.

I edited the torrent links above to go to the torrent download page instead of the torrent file.

They are both working for me. They were taken from the off topic post.

The 32-bit version torrent is the same as mininova.org. Same tracker.

I decided to use the Akamai download manager. The generic one built into IE is not reliable for big files, and it has no resume function at all. Mine is at 42%. The speed seems to fluctuate around 400 KB/s with my Comcast cable. It says I have 1 1/2 hours left, but I think it is going faster than that.

This thing is huge - 3GB. As far as I know, Windows has never come on DVD. Even XP didn't even fill out a regular CDR.

1GB for the OS, 1 GB extra for being "beta", and the last GB is used to phone home to MS

I forget if they allow you to use something other than a floppy to install 3rd party drivers on install.
Oh, also, for those that are getting it, you may want to check if you hardware has drivers available to test with.

It is kind of slow on my old computer, which, to be honest, is only rated a "1" on the Vista scale. The computer is an AMD 1700XP, Nvidia FX 5600, 768MB DDR and 120GB drive. The install took about an hour. Lanched the install from an XP version running on the computer, but I chose to overwrite the current version. It saved the files during this process, to a folder called Windows.old.

I just downloaded it now using the links provided in the email. I used firefoxes downloader instead of the "a" thing they linked. Worked fine and took ~8 min to d/l. I may try and install it tonight on my secondary machine... depends on if I want to attempt a dual xp/vista boot setup.

How long can you use a beta like this?

And are there any good 64-bit vista torrents!?! The one above isn't downloading at all, do I need a different torrenter (I'm using just regular bittorent)? I'm confused, and prolly sound like an uber nub, help me out.

Downloading the 64 bit version now using Download Manager @ 380KB and bouncing 🙁 it states 3-3 1/2 hours depending on how big the bounce is 🙁

We're all downloading Windows Vista "Ultimate" -- which is why the thing is huge... its got like all 12 versions of Vista in one.

I'm on a 100kbit "broadband" connection, ...so, for me, those torrent links are highly appreciated cuz there is no way i'd ever be able to download 3GB from a website.

i waited until it was late and got close to a 500KB average...i recommend you folks do the same....thanks OP

didn't have the patience, so I ordered couple of DVDs. With shipping, it came out to be 20 bucks. i'm cheap but my time is more valuable than 20 bucks....

... Start it before you leave for work? I wouldn't pay a damn thing for a BETA version.

After the DL links on the left gave me the too busy message, I downlowaded a program called Internet Download Manager from www.internetdownloadmanager.com and clicked on the 32 bit iso link. It's downloading fine so far at an average of about 920KB/sec w/ a gig pulled down in under 20 minutes so far. Not sure how much is related to my Comcast connection vs. the download program. Says I have just under 40 minutes left. Might want to give that a try.

Finally finished dl'in the 32bit version last night and now dl'in office beta so i can create the windows beta machine later. Also btw demonoid has torrents for 32bit and 64bit as well right now.

Or you can go to the thread I linked and get torrents without having to register for demonoid.

Original post updated with the torrent links posted as well as a driver compatibility list that I found particularly helpful.
