Did they hire ex hanna barbara animators to do the UI or what....whats with the cartoonish design? Maybe its the guys system, but the font's don't look tight either...looks sloppy. And why do you need the control panel to take up the whole screen? Take this screenshot for instance:

http://www.winsupersite.com/images/showcase/vista_5112_87.jpg

You have a category, then a couple of lines, which are apparently options, exposing options within the category. They should get rid of those options, and have the person I don't know, click on category. Plus, if there are more options in the category than whats listed undernearth the name, then it seems retarded to list the ones they do list.

http://www.winsupersite.com/images/showcase/vista_5112_52.jpg

This is retarded as well. They use an icon to denote a Folder, then underneath the name of the folder they say "File Folder". No Sh1t.

http://www.winsupersite.com/images/showcase/vista_5112_56.jpg

Why does half the screen needed to display a huge icon of a drive. There is also no info displayed of any relevance to the user.

For something named vista it sure seems cluttered. I wonder if they will have the classic 2000 theme to switch back to.

1. See the "Classic View?" Click that.
2. Uh, explorer has said file folder next to folders in various views as far back as I can remember.
3. They're demonstrating scalable hi res icons in that pic, see the pointer enlarging the row?

What silly gripes.

I don't have the beta. What if classic means XP? Longhorn is mainly a UI release, and their UI decisions leave much to be desired.

hahahaha...high res doesn't mean big. Maybe if they used Photoshop instead of MS Paint they could create better looking icons, instead of scaling shens.

Are there 64-bit builds available? If so I'm going to be damn happy to have my MSDN AA account come fall.

B1 doesn't even show off the major UI changes, save your complaining for B2.

Lots of people run 800x600 or 1024x768 because any higher than that and text and icons get too small to read. LH is supposed to use a lot SVG graphics so that they scale linearly so that you don't have to choose between too small and too big, you can run a high resolution while also having icons that you can see.

No, WinFS, at least the filesystem itself, was delayed far enough that it won't be released with Longhorn. There will probalby be an enhanced search tool, also probably called WinFS to further confuse people, shipped with Longhorn but it will be totally userspace.
